"I don't know whether to tell you or not, there are more cellphones than public bathrooms constructed for the poor in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The cell phone revolution is due to the cheaper prices, affordable to the poor. In 1983, we used to have only one channel. I don't know how many channels are there at present and how many new ones are coming daily. It could be hundred channels. This is technology transformation," said Kiran, during his speech in a agricultural meet in New Delhi.
Earlier, Union Minister Jairam Ramesh made similar comments which triggered a huge controversy. "Women are demanding mobile phones, but not public toilets," he said. Several women organizations had protested it and demanded the minister to take back the comments.
